Barbara Taylor Bradford is launching a campaign to find real women of substance living and working in the UK today.

In association with The Daily Express, P&O Cruises, Debenhams, and in support of Target Ovarian Cancer, Barbara is encouraging you to nominate women who deserve special recognition and are true examples of women of substance.

Criteria

Who are we looking for?
We want to encourage women, living and/or working in the UK, to enter themselves, a special friend, an inspirational colleague or a cherished relative.

So do you know someone who epitomises what it is to be a woman of substance today and deserves a special award and the chance to shine in the spotlight?
For example, they may have done one of the following:

  • Strived to achieved their life goals while overcoming a host of hurdles;
  • Gone on to better their lives, even when everyone else was saying they would fail;
  • Fought for what is right and achieved what she set out to do;
  • Worked hard to create a business from scratch;
  • Created opportunities for women to succeed in life - personally and professionally;
  • Achieved success (personal or professional) when faced with real adversity;
  • Kept their families together when faced with hardship/tragedy through sheer hard work and determination.

In essence, we want to recognise ordinary women who do extraordinary things be it in their home and with their family, in the area they live in, in the work that they do.

We think the time is right for these amazing women to be recognised and celebrated so enter now!

The awards will be open to women aged 18 who live and/or work in the UK.

Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. This competition is promoted by HarperCollins Publishers (“HarperCollins”), 77-85 Fulham Palace Road, London, W6 8JB.
  2. This promotion is open to all UK residents aged 18 or over except employees of HarperCollins (or their parent, subsidiaries or any affiliated companies) and their immediate families, who are not allowed to enter the competition.
  3. Entries can be made online at www.awosawards.co.uk or application forms can be printed from the website above or ordered from participating libraries and sent by post to Barbara Taylor Bradford AWOS Awards, PO Box 65123, London SW16 2EH. You may nominate yourself or another person for the Woman of Substance Awards.
  4. Closing date for entries is 5.30pm on 31 July 2009. No entries received after this date will be valid. No purchase necessary. Only one entry allowed per household.
  5. There will be one first prize winner and four runner up prize winners. These winners will be selected from all correctly entered nominees.
  6. The first prize winner will win a cruise for up to two adults and two children aged 16 or under. The prize cruise may be selected from either P&O Cruises 2009 fourth edition brochure or P&O Cruises 2010 first edition brochure, subject to availability. The cruise must be taken between September 2009 and September 2010. The prize does not include travel insurance, drinks, shore excursions, personal expenses, gratuities or travel to and from the cruise port in Southampton.
  7. The first prize winner and four runners up will each receive a full makeover and styling session by a Debenhams personal shopper and stylist at Debenhams Westfield which must be taken on 10th September 2009 (the day of the Awards Ceremony), plus £250 Debenhams Gift Card, a certificate of commendation, a selection of Barbara Taylor Bradford newly published books and a DVD package of Barbara Taylor Bradford films.
  8. The Awards Ceremony will take place in London on 10th September 2009. Competition winners will be invited to attend with one guest (travel and accommodation not included).
  9. The prize is non-refundable, non-transferable and subject to availability. No warranty is given as to the quality of the prize.
  10. No cash or prize alternatives are available. HarperCollins reserve the right in their reasonable discretion to substitute any prize with a prize of equal or greater value.
  11. The finalists of the competition will be picked from all entries received by a panel of judges (Barbara Taylor Bradford, Tina Moran - Associate Editor of the Daily Express, Joanna Barker - founder of Target Ovarian Cancer and Siobhan Kenny - Communications Director from HarperCollins Publishers) and notified by e-mail or phone no later than 20th August 2009. Where a finalist has been nominated by another person the finalist must accept these terms and conditions in order to attend the Awards Ceremony. The winner and runners up will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.
  12. Any application containing incorrect, false or unreadable information will be invalid. Any applications made on behalf of or for another person or multiple entries will be excluded from the competition.
  13. The judges’ decision as to who has won the competition shall be final.
  14. To obtain the name of the prize winners after the closing date, please write to Barbara Taylor Bradford c/o HarperCollinsPublishers, 77-85 Fulham Palace Road, Hammersmith, London, W6 8JB.
  15. The entry instructions are part of the Terms and Conditions for this competition.
  16. By entering the competition you are agreeing to accept these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions by you will mean that your entry will not be valid, and you will not be eligible to enter this competition.
  17. By entering this competition, you are agreeing that if you win your name and image may be used for the purpose of announcing the winner in any related publicity, without additional payment or permission.

  19. Under no circumstances will the HarperCollins be liable for any loss, damages, costs and expenses arising from or in any way connected with any errors, defects, interruptions, malfunctions or delays in the promotion of the prize.
  20. HarperCollins exclude all liability, so far as is permitted by law, which may arise in connection with this competition and reserve the right to cancel or alter the competition at any stage.
  21. Any dispute relating to the competition shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
